- Skill level: Confident beginner (rounds, increases, decreases, simple shaping and sewing pieces together)
- Body: a 48-stitch mesh tube with 24 open spaces per round, worked for 25 rounds
- Yarn: medium-weight (worsted) cotton in turquoise or pink, cream, a little white and black
- Hook: 3.5 mm (E)
- Gauge: about 14 dc x 8 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in)
- Make it bigger: add to the starting chain in multiples of 4
How it comes together
- Crochet the cream mesh tube and its solid top edge
- Work the coloured head straight onto that edge
- Add two hanging straps
- Make the side fins and the two tail lobes
- Add the eyes and smile, weave in the ends and hang it up
