Crochet Tissue Holder Free Pattern – Hang It in Your Car or by the Door
A free crochet tissue holder for your car, a door handle or the bedside: sage and ivory, with an oval pull-out opening and a wooden button flap.
This crochet tissue holder free pattern makes a hanging holder you can strap to a car headrest, a door handle or a bed frame, so tissues are always within reach. It is one of the most-searched uses right now: a crochet tissue holder for car trips and school runs. An ivory front with an oval opening, a sage back and gussets, a shaped flap with a wooden button, and two straps. It is almost all single crochet and fits a standard tissue packet.

- Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc across. [36 sc]
- Row 8 (curve): Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 13 sts, hdc in the next 3, dc in the next 4, hdc in the next 3, sc in the last 13. The center dips to start the curve of the opening. [36 sts]
Step 2: Ivory upper front panel

- Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc across. [36 sc]
- Row 8 (opening): Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 13 sts, ch 10 and skip the next 10 sts, sc in the last 13. [36 sts]

Step 3: Join the front and shape the oval opening
- Overlap the lower edge of the upper panel behind the upper edge of the lower panel by about 2.5 cm (1 in).
- Sew only the outer 12 stitches on each side, leaving the center free. Adjust until the oval measures about 7.5 x 10 cm (3 x 4 in).
- Work sc evenly around the oval, easing around the curve. Work a second sc round for strength.
- Optional scallops: *sl st, 5 dc in the next st, sl st* around your chosen edge stitches.

Step 4: Sage back panel and gussets
- Back panel: with sage green, ch 37. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and across [36 sc]. Ch 1, turn, sc across until the panel has 30 rows. [36 sc]

- Bottom gusset: ch 7. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and across [6 sc]. Ch 1, turn, sc across until the strip has 36 rows. [6 sc]
Step 5: Shaped top flap
- Row 1: With sage green, ch 37. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and across. [36 sc]
- Rows 2-10: Ch 1, turn, sc across. [36 sc]
- Row 11: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in the next 32, sc2tog. [34 sts]
- Row 12: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in the next 30, sc2tog. [32 sts]
- Row 13: Ch 1, turn, sc across to level the edge. [32 sc]
Step 6: Assemble the holder
- Gussets: sew the side and bottom gussets between the front and back panels. Leave the upper edge open for inserting tissues.
- Flap: sew the flap to the upper back edge.
- Straps: make two sage green straps to the length you like (a strip a few stitches wide works well) and sew them firmly to the upper back corners.
- Button: sew the wooden button at the front center, just below the flap. Make a small yarn loop on the flap to close over it.
- Finish: add small sage scallops along the sides if you like. Insert a tissue packet, pull the first tissue through the oval, weave in the ends and shape.

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit a tissue box instead of a packet?
This size is for a standard pocket-style tissue packet. For a box, make the panels wider in multiples of 6 and add rows until the panels match your box.
Where is the best place to hang it?
A door handle, a bedside hook, a car headrest or a stroller handle all work well.
Can I use it as a crochet tissue holder for the car?
Yes. Make the two straps long enough to wrap around your headrest, try them on the headrest before sewing them on, and button the holder closed. It also hangs from a car door handle or the back of a seat.
